A Scale Definition is used to define the characteristics of a scale's digital weight indicator. With each Scale Definition, you can specify the following characteristics of a scale's digital weight indicator:

How it is connected to your computer
How it transmits data to your computer
How the data it transmits is formatted
How the data it transmits appears to a Dispatch user

The Scale Definition Editor is used to add, edit and delete Scale Definitions.

Using Dispatch with multiple scales

There is no practical limit to the number of scales that Dispatch can be used with. Scale Definitions you can create. Why would you want to create more than one definition you might be wondering? Here are some scenarios:

Multiple scales at one location

The most obvious scenario would be if you had an inbound and outbound scale attached to the same computer. For each scale you would created a unique definition: one definition named 'Inbound' and the other 'Outbound'. The digital weight indicator attached to each scale does not have to be identical.

Multiple scales at multiple locations

Another scenario would be:

Using a laptop computer with more than one scale
Each scale is at a different location
The digital weight indicators at each location are not identical

In that scenario you would create a definition for the scale at each location and name the definition according to definition.
